Bio-Cell and the return of the daylit wall

Bio-Cell is a cellular bio-polymer with 0.036 W/mK conductivity and 62% light transmission at 60 mm thickness. Used as the core of a BioSIP panel it is invisible; used alone as an infill it turns a wall into a diffuse light source.

Daylight autonomy in the test room rose from 41% to 68% of occupied hours without adding a single window, because the light arrives from a large low-luminance surface instead of a small bright aperture. Glare metrics improved at the same time — a rare pairing.

The open question is UV stability. Accelerated ageing shows 6% transmission loss over a simulated ten years on the south face; the material is designed to be replaceable panel by panel rather than warranted for the life of the building.
