Growing your own greens in the kitchen, honestly measured
A 0.4 m² window shelf with 20 W of LED produces salad leaves every 21 days. The real variables are light hours, substrate reuse and honest electricity accounting.

Leafy greens and herbs pay off; fruiting crops rarely do indoors. Twenty watts of efficient LED over 0.4 m² for 14 hours a day is 0.28 kWh — count it honestly against the transport footprint you are replacing. Reuse substrate three cycles, then compost it.
